As the eagerly anticipated release date for Sturgent Studios' 2.5D Metroidvania adventure, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, steadily approaches, the excitement around the game only intensifies. The studio has been sharing more insights into what players can expect, making each revelation more intriguing than the last.
In a recent announcement on Twitter, Sturgent Studios shared an exciting detail about Tales of Kenzera: Zau's linguistic offerings. The game will not only be available in English but will also feature complete Swahili voice-overs right from its launch. This move aligns with the game's deep-rooted commitment to genuinely portraying African culture, adding a significant layer of authenticity to the player experience. This follows in the footsteps of another Metroidvania, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which introduced a Farsi voice-over option, indicating a growing trend towards cultural representation in gaming.
Heightening the anticipation, the production house revealed the lineup of talent set to embody the characters in the English and Swahili adaptations. Abubakar Salim, known for his role as Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins and serving as both the director of Tales of Kenzera and the founder of Sturgent Studios, will lend his voice to the protagonist, Zau, in English, and also voice another character named Zuberi. Neville Misati will assume the role of Zau in the Swahili version. The God of Death, Kalunga, will be voiced by Tristan D. Lalla in English and by Maqbul Mohammed in Swahili.
With an extensive and talented voice cast, coupled with its dedication to cultural authenticity, Tales of Kenzera: Zau is shaping up to be a memorable entry in the Metroidvania genre. Fans can look forward to diving into richly crafted adventure on April 23, as it launches across multiple platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
